After two years swallowed by the pandemic, the Mesmerize is back in 2022! This year featuring two temp holes which soon might become permanent! If you were at the Silicon Valley Classic, which was back last fall after 8 years (yes it was 2013 when I last hosted the classic), you can thank the efforts of Nick Pantages who spearheaded bringing that great event back and JC Quiambao and myself (Eric Stachnick) assisted in the effort.
The Mesmerize at Kelley Park, presented by Legacy Discs, will be a two day event this year with a unique format to accommodate more players. We will have two pools of 80 players. Each pool will play a shotgun start, 20 hole round per day, one on Saturday, one on Sunday. The pools will swap times, as we will have a morning start, and and afternoon start. Here is how it will play out: the B pool (most of the am divisions) will begin early Saturday with a shotgun start, meaning all players will check in and go to their starting holes and then with a two minute warning, all practice will stop, and a start horn will blow, and play begins. The pool will play their total round of 20 holes, and be done for the day. A BBQ vendor will be ready for you when you finish your round with food!
The pro pool (pool A), which will also have the Am 1 division, will play the afternoon round, also a shotgun start. The hope is to be around 1pm for this round.
On Sunday the pools will swap start times, with the A pool (pro pool) getting the early start, and the Am pool (pool B) starting in the afternoon.
This format will allow for 160 players to participate in the event and we can do it all on the same weekend!
We want to thank our title sponsor Legacy Discs for providing our players with amazing plastic and for all they do to help grow the sport and honor the player!
I could not do this without the help of the most talented artist in disc golf: Jef Wind! His amazing custom art for players packs, and discs, and trophies are unique, one of a kind, and always fun! Thanks for all you do, and most importantly, thanks for introducing me to this sport back in 1998! You are the best buddy!
